Moles can cause much damage to a homeowner’s property. They can destroy it by excavating tunnels in your lawn and garden, and comprising the structure of your property. Effective mole control and elimination is essential to maintaining a healthy lawn.

A mole is an insectivore and part of the Talpidae family. They eat worms, grubs and insects but 90% of their diet is earthworms. Due to their fast metabolism, they consume 80-100% of their body weight every day. Moles are essentially blind; however, they rely heavily on their senses of touch and smell. They use their gland to sense vibration and find food.

Moles breed once per year in late winter/early spring with litters as high as 6 pups. The gestation period is 30-45 days. The young are weaned in 3-5 weeks and are forced out to find or develop their own tunnel systems. This is a prime time to set up your evaluation by a professional company.

The damage done beneath the soil can be worse than what is visible to the eye and can be very extensive. Moles can create tunnels at a rate of 15-18 feet per hour and can navigate through established tunnels at a pace of 80 feet per minute. They can destroy lawns and roots of plants. A tell tale sign that a mole problem has emerged, is their trademark of surface or deep tunneling, in which they leave trails at the uppermost layer of lawns or gardens or create mounds of push-up soil.

Moles can cause extensive damage to a homeowner’s lawn and gardens. An effective mole control solution is essential to the homeowner. Precision Pest Control uses unique bait that can provide effective treatments to eliminate your mole problem. Please contact us to set-up your assessment and evaluation.

Fall is the time of year when pests will try to take up residence and overwinter in your home. Rodents, carpenter ants, queen bees, carpenter bees, cluster flies, lady bugs, and spiders look for shelter. These pests can become established in your home and cause structural damage.

Rodents such as mice or rats will look to seek refuge for the fall and winter. They can reproduce at a rate of 4-7 pups per litter with a gestation period of 19 days. The female will typically produce 5 to 10 litters in her lifetime. The pups become sexually mature as early as 6 to 10 weeks old; therefore, populations can grow rapidly. These rodents gnaw on electrical wires, tear insulation, contaminate food and leave unpleasant odors. Preventive services to winterize your home will eradicate the problem.

When the temperature begins to drop in the fall months, ants will look for ways to seek shelter. Carpenter ants can establish colonies inside the walls of your home and remain active. They will create nesting galleries in wood, causing the homeowner serious structural damage if left untreated.

Typically a wasp, hornet or yellow jacket queen bee will overwinter in the wall voids and attic. Carpenter bees also lay dormant in the winter. In the spring they awaken. The queen bee will look to lay eggs and establish new colonies and the carpenter bee will drill holes in the wood of your home.

Some occasional invaders that can enter your home include lady bugs, cluster flies, and spiders. A thorough inspection, sealing structural gaps, along with conventional and/or organic treatments in the fall will help to resolve your pest control problems.

This is the time of year for fall clean-up around your home. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a way for a home owner to do some preventative treatments around their home. Some of these preventative treatments can include: cutting back trees and bushes from touching your home, sealing up cracks and holes around the foundation, keeping firewood away from the home and covering trash cans. Your professional pest control company can advise you on the best way to implement IPM and eliminate the problem with conventional and/or organic solutions. This will help ensure that new pests do not enter your home.

Spring is the time of year that everything awakens-trees, flowers, as well as pests. Bees, spiders and ants come out of dormancy and are ready to invade your home. Bees and carpenter ants will awaken from inside the walls of your home and spiders will look for food. These pests can become established in your home and cause structural damage.

There are many types of ants (carpenter ants, pavement ants, pharaoh ants, acrobat ants, citronella ants etc). Identifying them is based on a thorough understanding of their nesting, foraging, colony formation and behavior.

Managing bees and wasps around your home requires a thorough inspection of the inside and outside of the home. Preventative treatments along the outside roofline, shutters, vents, decks, attics etc. will greatly reduce the number of large nests in the areas of your home.

Some occasional invaders that can enter your home include spiders, crickets, centipedes, earwigs, ground beetles and mites. A thorough inspection along with sealing structural gaps, an Integrated Pest Management program and residual treatment around the outside of the home will help eliminate the problem.

This is the time of year for spring clean-up around your home. Integrated Pest Management along with contacting your professional will help eliminate these pests and solve all of your pest control problems. Integrated Pest Management is a way for a home owner to do some preventative treatments around their home. Some of these preventative treatments can include: cutting back trees and bushes from touching your home, sealing up cracks and holes around the foundation, keeping firewood away from the home and covering trash cans. Your professional pest control company can eliminate the problem. In conjunction, the Integrated Pest Management will help ensure that new pests do not try to enter your home again.

Spring preventative treatments from your professional can vary according to circumstances. For example, if you live near water or in an area with many trees or bushes, this will determine the method of treatment. Your professional pest control company can advise you on the best way to implement Integrated Pest Management along with conventional and/or organic solutions.

Are large black ants showing up in your kitchen or bathroom?

When the temperature warms to approximately 60 degrees, carpenter ants come out of dormancy and will forage and seek for food and nesting places. They can be seen both inside and outside of your home. They may be coming from an outside nest or may have already established a colony in the walls of your home. Carpenter ants will create tunnels in wood, causing the homeowner serious structural damage if left untreated.

Are you seeing bees in your home in early spring?

These are typically a wasp, hornet or yellow jacket queen bee, generally who have overwintered in your wall voids and attics. Once awake, they will look to lay eggs and establish new colonies. If left untreated, the bees will establish colonies and become a bigger problem.

Is there carpenter bee damage around your home?

Chances are if you had carpenter bees in the past, they have been dormant in the winter and will emerge in the spring to lay their eggs. The newly hatched eggs will emerge in late summer. This new generation will often drill new holes and nest in the same areas. A professional residual barrier is recommended for prevention.

Are small black ants around the counter tops in your kitchen, dog feeding areas, children play areas, and outside your home where mounds of dirt are pushed up from the soil?

These are signs of Pavement Ants. They are nuisance pests. Typically they are found outside in the soil but will seek out food in your home. Their colonies can be quite large and will not decrease unless treated.

Are spider webs creating a nuisance around your home?

Spiders can be found in basements, garages, porches and other sheltered areas. Spiders come out to find food and feed on other pests. Spider infestations are usually the result of other insects being present around your home. Preventative treatments of these insects will help reduce the spider problem.

For the best results dealing with spring pests, we highly recommend an Integrated Pest Management Plan or IPM Plan. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a program designed to prevent infestations and eliminate any pest problems by reversing and eliminating conditions that are conductive to pests. This approach in conjunction with a maintenance plan will keep pests under control effectively.

Professional service is highly recommended for these spring pests. Preventive treatments will give you and your family peace of mind.
